Lutheran Day at Citi Field for 2010!

Dear Parent and Student:

Queens Lutheran School is happy to announce its involvement in Lutheran Day at Citi Field for 2010! Heres the information:

Mets vs. The Florida Marlins
Date: Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 4:10 p.m.
Cost: $20.00, Promenade Reserved

Fundraiser for the Lutheran Schools Association, which will receive a $4.00 donation from each ticket sold.

Sponsored by: The Lutheran Schools Association
Deadline: Friday, April 23, 2010
Checks: Payable to Queens Lutheran School
Seats: Promenade Reserved section (upper level, but closer to field)

All QLS. families will be grouped together. (Transportation to the game is the responsibility of each family.)

Its simple math: Baseball + Lutheran schools/churches = lots of fun! It will be a great day joining hundreds of others involved with Lutheran schools and churches, and best of all - those attending from Queens Lutheran will be seated together!

QLS Weblog Update

As you can see the QLS Weblog now has a new look. In the right column there are now links to Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz as well as other social networks. There's also an email subscription form for those that want to receive updates every morning and links to RSS news-feeds.

Queens Lutheran School has one of the most active and up to date school websites on the web thanks to all your efforts. So let's get the word out. It only takes a few seconds...

Class Yearbook Ad

Good Afternoon Parent or Guardian:

Yearbook ads are coming in and we thank you.

In addition it has been the custom for each class to create a ½ page class ad. It can really be fun. The teachers will ask his/her class to come up with a theme for the ad. The size of the ad will be be 8 ½ x 5 ½ for one half page ad. If each child brings in $5.00 it will cover the cost of the ad. We ask that you please give your child $5.00 to cover the cost of the ad. Please send in cash in an envelope marked Yearbook and write your child's name and class on the front.

Pass this around to everyone:

The QLS websites are doing great - there are 139 posts on the QLS Weblog. There are 67 photo albums (I'm not going to count the individual photos). This kind of thing makes a BIG difference when it comes to marketing for the school. If you look at other schools sites you'll find dead links and out of date information. This is what's making a difference - the constant updating of the QLS website.

All this exposure and marketing for about .10 a day.

Great as this all is - we need more. More entries in the weblog, more photos in the galleries, more entries on the calendar. All this is marketing and it makes a difference. What may seem like small stuff to you may be news to someone else - like someone considering enrolling their children. Other schools don't update their websites or weblogs as often so the sites go stale - fast.

Let's get more things up on the web.

Dear Parents and Students,

This year we are participating in a fun end-of-year day with students from Lutheran schools throughout the New York metropolitan area. We will be gathering for a Spirit Day with the Staten Island Yankees on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at 4pm. This Father's Day treat will offer you a chance to see the SI Yankees play the Brooklyn Cyclones, Single A team of the NY Mets. Root for the minor league club of your favorite big league team!

The cost for the day is $20 per ticket which includes all-you-can-eat hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, popcorn, soda and water; a SI Yankees cap; a game program; and an opportunity to run the bases following the game. With everything included there will be no need to worry about having to spend more money than the price of the ticket.

In addition, part of the ticket price will go to support the LSA scholarship fund.

I know it seems early to be buying tickets for a June game, but we want to make sure that we are able to purchase them for everyone. The stadium is located near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal-a one-minute walk from the terminal to the right field gate!

Come see the baseball stars of the future and join us on June 20th.

Re-registration

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Most of you have sent in the re-registration forms and I thank you for taking advantage of the Early Bird Special.

Those of you who have not yet re-registered your son/daughter for the coming school year please do so before our Easter Break. The re-registration fee is now $200.00 and will remain until April 8. After April 8 it will go up to $250.00.

We would like to have a count for the School Board Meeting this Thursday, March 25.

Tuesday's lunch

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 23, 1st and 2nd Grade will be cooking up a batch of Hoppin' John and Collard Greens. We're making enough so that if any older kids or teachers want a bowl for lunch - - - we're ready! $2.00 a bowl. Yummy!

Ingredients: Rice, onions, black-eyed peas, oil, collard greens, salt, pepper and thyme.

Nicole Ameduri - Pennies for Patients

Here's Nicole Ameduri presenting a check to Pennies for Patients. Grace Lutheran School and Queens Lutheran School participated in the fund raising drive during the month of February.

Nicole is a Grace Lutheran School teacher for the Nursery School and After School and also teaches music to the Queens Lutheran School 5th - 8th grade students every Monday.

Cell Phone...Blackberry...etc.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This is to notify you that the students are not permitted to use their cell phone or send texts, or receive calls/texts while in class or anywhere in the school. If a student needs to get in touch with you, (emergency, illness) he/she may come to the office and office personnel will call you.

If a student is seen doing the above, the cell phone will be confiscated and kept in the office. You will be notified of this and asked to come in to retrieve the cell phone. This is stated in the Parent/Guardian/Student Handbook.

They may use their cell phone once dismissed from school.

Please talk with your child about this rule and enforce it.

Re-registration

Dear Parent or Guardian:

If you have not yet sent in the Re-registration papers for the 2010-2011 School Year please do so before tomorrow, Friday, March 19 while the Re-registration fee is still $150.00 After March 19th and until April 9th the fee will be $200.00

Please send in the forms or at least the $150.00 fee and the forms can be sent in next week.

St. Patrick's Day

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day (party too) as well as Chapel.

As every Wednesday, students must be in full uniform for chapel.

Those attending the party may change after chapel if their teacher permits or they may change just before the party.

Those not attending the party may add a touch of green (scarf, tie, bow, pin, vest, etc.) to their uniform after chapel.

You can send them to a special photo album "drop box" and we'll review them and do the rest. (Contact the school office for the special link.)

Lutheran Schools Week

Lutheran Schools Week is coming to a close. Tomorrow, Friday, March 12 is PAJAMA DAY. Students may were their pj's to school.

Pastor Klockau volunteered to make lunch for all.......Tuna and Egg Salad Sandwiches with a side of chips. How cool is that? Thank you Pastor.

Please know that Souvlaki will still be delivered as our regular Friday lunch. If you did not order Souvlaki for your child and if he/she does not eat Tuna or Egg Salad, please be sure to make his/her lunch.

Another fun day. The children are enjoying Lutheran Schools Week.

A number of parents/guardians attended chapel and later enjoyed light refreshments, viewed various displays and visited their child's classroom.

Volunteers received a certificate and a small token of appreciation for all their help and dedication.

BIG News in a Small School…

BIG News in a Small School…

Queens Lutheran School, in Astoria, is a small school with a big heart. Although, the entire student body consists of 48 students, Queens Lutheran School has collected of $565.25 to send to Haiti for their Earthquake Relief. These donations were received through Chapel offerings donated by the staff, students, and parents during the month of February.

Along with their contributions to Haiti, Queens Lutheran Schools has sponsored many organizations throughout the school year. They have sent funds to Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, Doctors without Borders, and Pennies for Patients. Hats off to Queens Lutheran School for a job well done!

Lutheran Schools Week

Tomorrow, Tuesday, March 9 is Student Recognition Day - Twin Day - Students may dress alike (twins or triplets)

Wednesday, March 10 is Parent/Volunteer Recognition Day and Open School Day - 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. We invite all our parents or guardians to come to Chapel at 9:00 a.m. We will be recognizing our volunteer parents or guardians. Following Chapel, parents or guardians are invited to go to their child's class, sit or stand quietly while the teacher begins her lesson. There will be classroom displays and light refreshments for your enjoyments, in the lunchroom.

The children have been looking forward to this week for a while and there is nothing like a smile on a child's face I'm sure you can attest to that.

If anyone is available to take pictures this week please let the office know. The Lutheran Schools Association is asking us to send them pictures taken this week for their publication. We will also upload them on our web page.
